She's About to Give Birth! - Pregnant guppy fish giving birth

In this video I share an update on a pregnant guppy fish giving birth. Breeding livebearers is one of the most rewarding aspects of the aquarium hobby, and watching new life come into the world never gets old. If you're breeding pregnant guppy fish yourself, you'll know the anticipation of waiting for those babies to arrive. One of the most important aspects is learning how to spot the 'tell-tail' signs.

The most obvious trait that a pregnant guppy fish is close to birth is the 'squaring' of her belly. As the female gets close, the fry are at their largest and closest to the ventral area where they will be dropped. This causes the pregnant fuppy fish's stomach to become 'square' and largely bloated. The part of her belly closest to her ventral area will look particularly rectangular more than oval, which is a sign birth is iminent.

Another important sign is hovering in place in a secluded/quiet area; As the pregnant female guppy gets closer to birth, she will look for a safe, low stress environment to go into labour.

The final obvious sign of a pregnant guppy fish giving birth is labour contractions. When she is giving birth she may show contractions, these are labour contrations and birth is iminent.
