Guppies and livebearers are colourful, active, and endlessly rewarding, which is exactly why they are a favourite for beginners and seasoned keepers alike. From fancy guppies and endlers to mollies, platies, and swordtails, this group brings constant movement and colour to a tank. Ours are captive-bred and well-conditioned, and we ship Australia-wide.
Caring for Livebearers
Livebearers are among the easiest fish to keep. They are hardy, adaptable, and happy in neutral to slightly hard water with a temperature of 22 to 28 degrees. As the name suggests they give birth to live young rather than laying eggs, and they breed readily, so a mixed group will often produce fry with no effort on your part. If you want to control numbers, keep a single sex or be ready to manage a growing colony.
Great for New Keepers and Breeders
Because they are tough and prolific, livebearers are a brilliant first fish and an equally good project for anyone wanting to try selective breeding. The colour and fin variety in guppies alone can keep a hobbyist busy for years. We are always happy to talk strains and genetics if that is the rabbit hole you want to go down.
Common Questions
Will my livebearers breed on their own? Almost certainly. A mixed-sex group will produce fry regularly, so plan for it before you buy.
Are guppies good for beginners? They are one of the best beginner fish there is, being hardy, colourful, and forgiving of small mistakes.
