Corydoras and other catfish are the hardworking, charming members of the bottom of the tank. Cory cats are peaceful, social, and endlessly busy, while bristlenose and other catfish earn their keep grazing surfaces. Every fish here is well-conditioned and quarantined, and we ship Australia-wide.

Caring for Corydoras

Corydoras are shoaling fish and should be kept in a group of at least six, where they are far more active and confident. A soft sand substrate is best for them, because it protects the delicate barbels they use to sift for food. They are peaceful with everything and suit almost any community tank, with a temperature of 22 to 26 degrees suiting most species. Feed sinking foods so they get their share at the bottom.

Catfish for a Clean Tank

Bristlenose and similar catfish are popular for good reason. They are hardy, peaceful, and spend their time grazing surfaces. They are not a substitute for good tank maintenance, but they are great working members of a community and a favourite of ours to breed.

Common Questions

Why do corydoras need to be in groups? They are social animals. Kept alone or in pairs they become stressed and withdrawn, while a group of six or more brings out their natural busy behaviour.

What substrate is best? Smooth sand. Sharp gravel can wear down and damage their barbels over time.
