Description ▼
Grown out over a longer cycle, this Anubias barteri (Old) batch produces larger, more established leaves and a thicker rhizome than younger stock, giving an instant, mature look to hardscape.
Anubias Care
Anubias is an epiphyte, so it should never be planted in substrate. Tie or glue the rhizome to driftwood, rock, or hardscape and allow the root system to spread naturally across the surface. Burying the rhizome is the most common cause of rot in this genus.
- Lighting: low to medium, tolerant of shaded positions under taller plants or wood
- Water parameters: adaptable across a wide pH and hardness range, suitable for most freshwater community setups
- Growth rate: slow, low nutrient demand, CO2 not required
- Placement: mid-ground to background depending on mature leaf size
Slow growth and broad leaves also make Anubias a favourite for herbivorous and grazing fish, and a safe planting choice around fish that typically uproot softer stem plants.
