Assorted Ryukin Goldfish - High-Backed Body Shape, Mixed Colours
The Assorted Ryukin Goldfish is known for its distinctively high-backed body shape, with a pronounced hump behind the head that sets it apart from the flatter profile of other fancy goldfish varieties, sold here in a mixed colour run.
Despite that dramatic humped back, the Ryukin remains a peaceful, unhurried swimmer in keeping with the rest of the fancy goldfish group, and its rounded form pairs well with a flowing twin tail. It is a hardy, easy-to-keep variety once its slightly higher care needs are understood.
At N8 Aquatics, our fish are carefully raised and conditioned to ensure healthy stock suited to home aquariums.
Species Snapshot
- Adult Size: 15–20 cm
- Tank Size: 150 L minimum
- Temperament: Peaceful, slower swimmer than single-tail goldfish — best kept with other fancy varieties, not fast comets that will out-compete them for food
- Temperature: 18–24°C
- pH: 7.0–8.0
- Difficulty: Easy to Moderate
Ideal Habitat and Care
A 150 L or larger tank with gentle flow and open swimming space suits this high-backed, rounder-bodied goldfish well.
- Temperature: 18–24°C
- pH: 7.0–8.0
- Water Flow: Gentle to moderate — strong current can be tiring for this rounder-bodied, slower swimmer
- Maintenance: Strong filtration with regular partial water changes to manage waste load
Diet
An easy-feeding omnivore, the Ryukin does best on smaller portions offered a few times daily.
- Goldfish flake or pellet sized for a smaller mouth
- Blanched vegetables such as peas or zucchini
- Occasional frozen bloodworm or brine shrimp
- Smaller, more frequent feeds to reduce the risk of swim bladder issues
Compatibility
This rounder-bodied fancy goldfish is a slower, more deliberate swimmer than single-tail comets and does best alongside other fancy varieties that share its gentler pace and won't out-compete it at feeding time.
Suitable tankmates include:
- Other fantail, ryukin or moor goldfish
- Other similarly slow-swimming fancy varieties
- Peaceful, cold-tolerant snails
- Avoid fast single-tail comets, which will out-compete them for food
Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
