The Black Molly is prized for its deep, solid black colouration that runs from nose to tail with no breaks or patches, giving it a sleek, uniform look that contrasts beautifully against light gravel or green planting.

Beneath that bold colour is a classic molly: hardy, active and quick to settle into a well-maintained community tank, reaching 8–10 cm at maturity.

Ideal Habitat and Care

Mollies do best in a well-established aquarium of at least 75 L with harder, alkaline, mineral-rich water.

Diet

Mollies are omnivores with a strong appetite for vegetable matter.

• Blanched vegetables such as zucchini or spinach
• Occasional live or frozen foods for variety

Compatibility

Mollies are peaceful, sociable fish that do well in a well-chosen community aquarium, though very small nano fish are best avoided.

Suitable tankmates include:

• Platies
• Swordtails
• Larger tetras
• Corydoras catfish

Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
