The Bolivian Ram (Mikrogeophagus altispinosus) is a close cousin of the German Blue Ram, but noticeably hardier and more forgiving of a wider range of water conditions. It wears a soft golden-grey body highlighted with subtle pink and blue iridescence, a dark eye stripe, and elegant finnage, especially in mature males.

Unlike its wild-type relatives, the Bolivian Ram tolerates a broader temperature and pH range without fuss, making it an excellent entry point into dwarf cichlid keeping. It remains peaceful with tankmates its own size and only becomes territorial when guarding a chosen breeding cave.
