The Checkered Barb wears a subtle, understated checkerboard-style pattern along its flanks, a series of alternating dark and light scales that gives the body a soft, textured look rather than the bold bands seen in some other barbs.

This is a genuinely peaceful, easy-going member of the barb family, content to shoal quietly through the mid-water without the boisterous chasing seen in its tiger-striped relatives. It settles in well alongside a wide range of similarly calm community fish.
