The Amazon Sword is one of the most recognisable aquarium plants around, and for good reason — its broad, lush green leaves and hardy nature make it a fantastic centrepiece for beginner and experienced keepers alike.

Ideal Habitat and Care

The Amazon Sword is a heavy root feeder, so it benefits from root tabs or a nutrient-rich substrate. Give it space — this plant grows large over time and is best placed centrally or toward the back of the tank.

Propagation & Trimming

Mature plants send out runners with plantlets that can be separated once rooted, or produce a flower stalk above the waterline. Trim off any yellowing outer leaves to keep the plant tidy.

Compatibility

Safe with all community fish, shrimp, and snails — a great choice for larger community tanks.
