Description

Gold Sucking Catfish - A Vivid Golden Algae-Eater With a Big-Tank Future

The Gold Sucking Catfish is a golden-orange colour form of the common algae-eating sucking catfish, bringing a splash of warm colour to a family usually known for drab tones, while retaining all the same hardy, hard-working nature. As a juvenile it's a compact, efficient glass and decor cleaner.

Important: this is not a small fish long-term. This species can reach 30 cm or more at full maturity, so what starts as a modest tankmate will eventually need a genuinely large, well-filtered aquarium to thrive. Please plan for this growth before purchasing rather than being caught out later.

At N8 Aquatics, our fish are carefully raised and conditioned to ensure healthy stock suited to home aquariums.

  • Temperature: 22-28°C
  • pH: 6.5-7.5

Diet

A grazing, algae-based diet keeps this species healthy at every life stage.

  • Algae wafers as a staple
  • Blanched vegetables such as zucchini or cucumber
  • Driftwood to graze on

Compatibility

Peaceful with most community fish but territorial toward its own kind, this species suits tanks where its adult size has been planned for.

Suitable tankmates include:

  • Most peaceful community fish
  • Larger, robust tank residents
  • Other algae-eating species (with space to establish separate territories)

Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
