The Neon Tetra is arguably the most recognisable freshwater aquarium fish of all, carrying the iconic iridescent blue stripe over a vivid red lower body that has made it a community tank essential worldwide.

Its bold colouration is best appreciated in a decent-sized school, where the fish move together in tight formation and their stripes seem to glow against dark substrate and planting.

A classic peaceful community fish, it thrives alongside a wide range of similarly gentle species.

Suitable tankmates include:

• Other tetra and rasbora species
• Corydoras catfish
• Dwarf gourami and shrimp-safe community fish

Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
