Red Dragon Plakat Betta - Metallic Armoured Scaling on a Feisty Plakat
The Red Dragon Plakat Betta shows metallic red 'dragon scale' patterning, where each thick, reflective scale is edged distinctly enough to give the fish an armoured, almost reptilian texture across its short-finned plakat body.
That heavy dragon scaling sits on a compact, athletic frame typical of plakat bettas, making this strain a hardier and slightly more agile fish than long-finned show varieties. It carries the usual confident, territorial plakat temperament and should always be kept as the sole betta in its tank.
At N8 Aquatics, our fish are carefully raised and conditioned to ensure healthy stock suited to home aquariums.
Species Snapshot
- Adult Size: 5–6 cm
- Tank Size: 20 L minimum, heated and filtered
- Temperament: Territorial toward other bettas (their short fins make them slightly more agile/feisty than long-finned show bettas) — never house two males together
- Temperature: 24–28°C
- pH: 6.5–7.5
- Difficulty: Easy
Ideal Habitat and Care
A heated, filtered 20 L or larger aquarium with a tight-fitting lid suits the Red Dragon Plakat, as this athletic strain is a capable jumper.
- Temperature: 24–28°C
- pH: 6.5–7.5
- Water Flow: Low to gentle — bettas dislike strong currents
- Maintenance: Weekly partial water changes with stable, cycled filtration
Diet
This carnivore-leaning omnivore does best on a protein-rich, varied diet.
- High-quality betta pellets as a daily staple
- Frozen or live bloodworm for enrichment
- Frozen or live brine shrimp for extra protein
- Occasional variety to keep colours vibrant
Compatibility
Best kept alone, or with calm bottom dwellers and non-fin-nipping tankmates; avoid other bettas and gourami, which can trigger territorial aggression.
Suitable tankmates include:
- Calm bottom-dwelling species such as corydoras
- Peaceful, fast-moving nano fish that stay out of its territory
- Snails in a well-established, planted tank
- Avoid other male bettas and gourami
Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
