Description

Red & White Oranda Goldfish - Bold Contrast Beneath a Signature Wen

The Red & White Oranda Goldfish shows bold red and white patterning across its body, topped with the signature raspberry-like wen growth that gives the Oranda variety its unmistakable silhouette.

The contrast between the crisp red and white body colour and the textured wen growth becomes more striking as the fish matures and the head growth fills out. Like other wen varieties, it is a slow, deliberate swimmer that thrives in calm, well-maintained water.

At N8 Aquatics, our fish are carefully raised and conditioned to ensure healthy stock suited to home aquariums.

Species Snapshot

  • Adult Size: 15–20 cm
  • Tank Size: 150 L minimum
  • Temperament: Peaceful, slow swimmer — best kept with other similarly slow fancy goldfish
  • Temperature: 18–24°C
  • pH: 7.0–8.0
  • Difficulty: Moderate (the wen/head growth can trap debris, so water quality needs close attention)

Ideal Habitat and Care

A 150 L or larger tank with calm flow and smooth decor suits this Oranda's developing wen and rounded body shape.

  • Temperature: 18–24°C
  • pH: 7.0–8.0
  • Water Flow: Gentle — this slow, rounder-bodied swimmer prefers calm water
  • Maintenance: Strong filtration with frequent partial water changes, as the wen growth can trap debris and affect water quality

Diet

This omnivore does best on smaller, more frequent feeds appropriate for its wen-covered head.

  • Goldfish flake or pellet sized for a smaller mouth
  • Blanched vegetables such as peas or zucchini
  • Occasional frozen bloodworm or brine shrimp
  • Smaller, more frequent feeds to help avoid swim bladder issues

Compatibility

As one of the slowest-swimming fancy goldfish varieties, wen-headed goldfish do best kept exclusively with other similarly slow, rounder-bodied fancy goldfish.

Suitable tankmates include:

  • Other Oranda or Ranchu goldfish
  • Other slow-swimming fancy goldfish varieties
  • Peaceful, cold-tolerant snails
  • Avoid fast single-tail comets, which will out-compete them for food

Avoid aggressive or fin-nipping species.
